Mildred Louise (Bass) Merritt

Mildred Louise Merritt, 94, formerly of Clinton, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Harborview Rehabilitation in Morehead City, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 11 A. M., Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Rowan Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Clay Carter officiating.

Mildred, born in1923 in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Joseph Prentice Bass and Sallie Bradshaw Bass.  She worked in cosmetic sales in Reynolds Drug Store.  In addition to parents she was preceded in death by; husband, James Robert Merritt; siblings, Danzel Bass Warwick, Joseph Linwood Bass, Gernie Jack Bass, Charlie H. Bass, Dewey L. Bass, Pete Bass, and Prentice Bass Pope, and daughter-in-law, Judy Herring Merritt.

Survivors include; children, Robert Merritt of Leland, Treva Louise Merritt of Roxboro, Jody Merritt of Beaufort; six grandchildren, Carrie Williams and husband John of New Bern, Heather Merritt of Newport, Mary Bethany Merritt, James Robert Merritt, III, John E Grimes and Lisa G. Girard; six great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister, Susan Bass Walls and husband Benny of Burgaw; brother, Wade Bass of Richmond, Va; and family friend, Mary Lee McKay.
