James Dwight Smith, 66, of 2285 Keener Road, passed away peacefully on November 3, in his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born February 2, 1951, to James Lee Smith and Hazel Ausley Smith in Raleigh, NC. He was a quiet, gentle man who loved his family dearly. He spent much of his time gardening, cooking and taking care of his birds. He loved camping at the beach, fishing and wood-working. He retired from Kivett’s Furniture.
Dwight was a member of Mary’s Chapel Church and a previous member of Northwest Harnett Fire Department. He also enjoyed going to other churches especially Surf City Family Campground Church, Plainview Church and Kivett’s Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-children Michael, Terry and Mark Kiger.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Kiger Smith of the home, stepchildren; Debbie Smith, Susan Jordan (Craig) and Tony Kiger (Sherry); twenty-three step-grandchildren; twenty-three step great-grandchildren; ten step great-great grandchildren; and also survived by Joe and Sharon Ausley and Jean Smith Betts.
Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home. The funeral will take place at 2 P.M., Monday, November 6, 2017 at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church. Burial is to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove. The family will receive visitors at other times at the home.
