Evelyn Ruth Benton Johnson, 90, formerly of Ingold and 311 Herring St., Clinton, passed away peacefully at Autumn Winds, Wednesday, January 20th.

Due to inclement weather the funeral service has been rescheduled for 2 P.M., Monday, January 25.  The service will be at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, NC, with the Rev. T. R. Miller and Rev. Danny Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ingold Cemetery.

Evelyn was the widow of Albert C. Johnson of Ingold.  She was a homemaker, a secretary for Union High School in the 1970’s and an Enumerator for the N. C. Dept. of Agriculture.  She was a dedicated member of Johnson’s Chapel Methodist Church and later First United Methodist Church.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Lou Johnson Newsome; son, Albert Eugene “Gene”; brothers, M. C. “Red”, Don, Ray, Alvin Earl, and Bob Benton; and sisters, Elizabeth “Sis”, Kathleen, and Dot.

Survivors include a son, William Benton “Billy” Johnson and wife Karen of Pikeville; a daughter, Ruth Allison “Ruthy” Pope and husband Terry of Salemburg; one sister, Lou Carol Morris of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, Christy (Nolan) Smith, Benton(Miriam) Johnson, Emily (Patrick) McGrath, Katie (Rob) Cutler, Farrah (Chris)Dixon, Lee (Victoria) Matthews, Savanna Pope, Terri Pope and Jessicca (Eddie) Carter ; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends starting at 1 P.M., Monday at First United Methodist Church, one hour prior to the service.
