Edna Ervin (Granny Bird), 93, passed away October 18, 2017. She was born in Perquimans County and spent her youth in Elizabeth City, NC. Most of her married life she resided in Clinton, NC and lived the last six years in Chesapeake, VA. She was the daughter of Edward and Grizzie Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest Elmore "Doc"

Ervin, owner and operator of Pine State Distributing Company; younger sister Marian Sharber; older  brother Delbert Jackson , as well as three other brothers who died very young; and a very special niece's  daughter Whitney Warren.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Gardner of Plymouth, NC and Patty Pritchard and husband Buddy of Chesapeake, VA; sister Vivian Phelps of Eustis, FL; three grandchildren,

Ernie Gardner and wife Pam, Christopher Gardner and wife Barrie, and Natalie Maixner and husband Will Maixner; two step-grandchildren David Pritchard and wife Nena and Brad Pritchard and wife Nicolle; three great grandchildren, Owen, Jackson and Savannah Gardner; and three step great grandchildren Sarah, Lillie and Theo Pritchard; nephews and nieces.

 

Edna was a homemaker for many years and later continued her husband's business, after his death, with the help of very special and loyal employees. She raised her children along with other special Powell Street mothers to have beautiful childhood memories and long lasting friendships. She is remembered by her daughters as being a loving caregiver to her family, a pillar of strength, and a selfless lady. Sweet smiles and memories of Granny Bird will be remembered forever.

 

A special thanks to Lilliana Negrut and Carla Francis for providing spiritual and loving care, as well as Hospice nurse Julie Agles-Jankee.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M., Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with Rev. T. R. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation prior to service from. 1 P.M. – 2 P.M., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Clinton,  208 Sampson St., Clinton, NC  28328,  or charity of your choice.
