Charlie Turner McCullen, Jr, 96, of 3256 N US Hwy 421, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 408 College Street, Clinton,  with the Reverend James Croom and Reverend Jim Knox  officiating.  Interment with Masonic rites will follow in the Clinton City Cemetery. 

Charlie born in 1920 in Sampson County, was the son of the late Charlie Turner McCullen and Lillie Straughn McCullen.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Eleanor Dudley McCullen; brother, Manley McCullen; sisters, Margaret M. Butler and Mildred M. Daughtry; and nephew, Ronnie McCullen.  He served as Sampson County Clerk of Court from 1973 to 2002.  He was a member of Brown Baptist Church and of Hiram Masonic Lodge #98 Clinton.

He is survived by sisters, Carol M. Bethune (W. E. Bethune)  and Gladys M. Bass; nieces, Summer Berry (Scott), Charlene Smith, Rhonda Summerlin, Beverly Casper, Phyllis Blackman, Judy Gillis (Milton), Tanya Glove (Don); nephews, Terry Bass (Marsha), Brent Daughtry, Landon Barefoot, Jr. (Carol), Barry Dudley (Michelle), Brent Blackman(Pam), and Bill Dudley (Mary Ann); great-niece, Nicole McCullen Morris (Jamie); great-nephews, Johnathan McCullen and Little Charlie McCullen; his caregiver, Janet Johnson; and numerous great-great nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.
