Mr. Adrian Frank (A.F.) Powell, Jr, 81, of 811 Powell Road, Clinton, NC died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Holly Grove Christian Church, 3940 Union School Road, Clinton, NC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Powell was born September 30, 1936 in Sampson County, son of the late Adrian Frank Powell, Sr. and Gladys Bradsher Powell.  He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Victoria Mable Powell; sister, Mable Powell Matthews, and brother-in-law, Robert Matthews.

He was a member of Holly Grove Presbyterian Church.

A.F. is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith Parker Powell.  He is also survived by his daughter, Adrianne Magill and husband, Brad of Algona, Iowa; son, Frank Powell and wife Marleen; son, Nelson Powell and wife, Melody, all of Clinton.  Known as Popie to his grandchildren whom he cherished, they are Zach “Kane” Rogers, Seth Rogers and wife Ashley, and Jedd Magill all of Iowa; Drew Magill of El Paso, Texas; Caroline Powell Tyner and husband Aaron of Wade, NC; Dylan Powell, and Lily Powell both of Clinton.  His great granddaughter, Emmaline Faith Tyner, and a sister, Eleanor Powell Hertrich and husband Joe of Homosassa, Florida also survive him.

A.F. (known to friends as Smokey) served over 43 years as an electrician with JP Stevens in Wallace, NC then retired into farming on the family farm.  He was a man of many talents, loved the challenge of figuring things out and fixing them, and was always one to help his fellow man.  He did his best to pass these traits along to all who spent time with him.  He was an active member of the Sampson County Amateur Radio Services (SCARS), which was another family to him, and he loved few things better than talking with his HAM radio buddies each night on the Clinton Net.
